Tuning

I am a highly proficient, ear trained, aural tuner. To put it simply, I have “a very good ear”. So I do not need to rely on electronic tuning devices. I can tune a piano more beautifully and, yes, even more accurately, by ear than anyone with an electronic device. This is important because, as anyone who truly knows pianos will tell you, the piano always sounds best when the work is done “by ear”.

Repair

The goal of repair is to restore the piano to its original, or better, condition. I have all the tools, skills and expertise to do just that. Many repairs are inexpensive and can be done the same day without ever needing to move the piano to another location.

Action Regulation

Regulation increases the efficiency of the mechanical parts of your piano, known as “the action”. Oftentimes just a few inexpensive adjustments can make a world of difference to the sensitivity and touch of an instrument. These adjustments restore the piano to its original correct tolerances, which in many cases are within 1/1000th of an inch. This allows you to play with more control and more ease of expression. There are over a dozen adjustments per note. Multiply that number by 88 notes and you begin to see why it is so important to hire an expert!

Voicing

The pianos tonal color is adjusted by making very careful and subtle changes to the surface and density of hammers. A proper voicing can add remarkably to the beauty of an instrument’s tone.

Purchase Appraisals

I highly recommend pre-purchase appraisals for every piano, since even pianos of the same price can vary widely in quality and condition. Many of these will need costly repairs which are rarely obvious to the untrained eye and ear.
